For more than a century, our region has been home to Fort Knox, a 110,000-acre U.S. Army installation with countless missions critical to our national defense.
With nearly 22,000 Soldiers, Army Civilian Employees and Defense Contractors, Fort Knox has the second largest workforce in Kentucky. Additionally, tens of thousands of military retirees and veterans choose to call our region home when they complete their military service.

The Sounds of Freedom

The Summer Surge

  • Fort Knox is home the Army’s largest annual training exercise – Cadet Summer Training (CST).
  • Each summer, upwards of 15,000 college ROTC cadets and instructors come to Fort Knox for CST.
  • Families of the cadets visit to see their son or daughter graduate from CST, contributing to increased hotel stays and restaurant goers.
